Review: Tashan - Fantastic Entertainment!

Unlike another film that recently released and promised a lot of action but served up only style, this Yash Raj's flick promises lots of action lekin Tashan se!

indya.com Rating: 4/5
Cast: Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor
Director: Vijay Krishna Acharya

The film begins with Jimmy (Saif Ali Khan) diving off a cliff and falling into water. How does he get there? Well that's what forms the first part of the film. Khan who is a call centre executive is roped in by Pooja (Kareena Kapoor) to train Bhaiyaji (Anil Kapoor) in English. In his process of playing teacher student with Anil, Khan falls for Kareena's charms. Kareena tells Khan all about the big loan on her head that she must repay to Anil or else marry him. The two lovers then decide to rob Anil of his own money and use that to repay Kareena's debt. Khan does all the dirty work of procuring the money. Handing it over to Kareena he goes to his office to put in a leave sanction where he finds cops talking to all the employees of the call centre about a big don who has been extorting money from big business men whose numbers are being released from Saif's office. That's when he comes to know about Anil Kapoor's reality. Panicking Khan returns home to tell Kareena all about the truth of her master to realise she has fled leaving him a big lipstick mark on his bathroom mirror. Realising that he has been duped and used by Kareena to acquire that 25 crores from Anil, Khan doesn't know what to do. He surrenders himself to Anil but pleads innocence about the whereabouts Kareena and the money. This is where Bachchan Pande (Akshay Kumar) comes in. Akshay is a recovery agent in Kanpur – a thug who gets money out of anyone and everyone. Anil Kapoor employs him to find Kareena and his money. What happens once they find Kareena is what the rest of the story is all about.

With Tashan being one of the most awaited films of the year I walked into the Yash Raj Studio with immense expectations. The film had to be top notch. It had to show me Kareena's size zero body… the sizzling chemistry between her and current beau Saif. We needed to see Akshay Kumar returning to his khiladi avatar in this action flick. So did debutant director Vijay Krishna Acharya deliver? Hell yes! He served up all of that and a lot more…

For those who loved Yash Raj's earlier action flick Dhoom, Tashan goes a step higher. The fight sequences and Akshay Kumar especially is brilliant. Saif's timing with Kareena and Akshay is spot on. Similarly, Vikram's shooting locales are picturesque – whether Greece, Haridwar, Rajastha or Kerala. And if all that isn't enough, Saif's son Ibrahim in his short role got enough 'awwwwws' in the theatre than anyone else on the screen did! He's another star in the making... But if there was anything that was slightly disappointing then it was Anil Kapoor and his red hair. His I-want-to-speak-English- act could have been fifteen minutes shorter at least.

So all in all is this film worth a trek to your cinema? Definitely yes! Unlike another film that recently released and promised a lot of action but served up only style, this Yash Raj's flick promises lots of action lekin Tashan se!
