Oh My God revolves around Vinay Pathak who has a money making scheme which will make him and his investors rich. His wife played by Divya Dutta supports him no matter what. She wants a family but he wants money first. His supportive boss played by Harsh Chhaya is going through a divorce. His scheme isn't very popular in his office and he keeps distributing flyers with the scheme details but few people take him seriously. Then God played by Sourabh Shukla appears in different human avatars to give him money; he even poses as someone who wants to invest in his scheme but Rajendra turns him away thinking he is a fraudster. So God keeps giving him what he wants but Rajendra doesn't take because he wants to earn money on the basis of his strategy and hard-work and he drives himself mad.
Performance wise, Vinay Pathak is brilliant as expected; his ability to slip into role and make every character lovable and believable is remarkable and he doesn't need Ranvir Shorey to shine in a movie. Even when the movie drags, Vinay carries it through. Divya Dutta looks bad but acts well. Gaurav Ghera who plays Rajendra's friend Piddu is good.
Harsh Chhaya is effective. Sourabh Shukla plays God very well. His character is almost human and ever-so-magnanimous. Memorable scenes include the pre-climax scene where Rajendra goes mad, Divya's conversations with God as He munches away on potato chips.
The movie looks dated and is not a comedy. It's a drama which is sometimes psychotic. It is short but drags at places. Also, Rajendra's scheme is never revealed. People like Rajendra Dubey who repeatedly turn money away are hard to find.
The movie makes an attempt to renew our faith in God because He knows what is best for us. He is always listening to us and responding to our prayers but we do not recognize or understand his tactics. We don't focus on the result of our desires but on the process of how the desires will be realized. So we need to keep our eyes, minds and hearts open so that we can receive what God is giving us and not question his intentions for us.
It is worth a watch on DVD for its message and Vinay Pathak's performance.
