Akshaye Khanna plays super hot supermarket owner Gaurav who lives with his bawarchi-cum-housekeeper-cum-business partner father, Janardhan Rane (Paresh Rawal). His elder brother Chirag (Manoj Joshi) lives with his scheming wife and daughter. Janardhan's boxer buddy is the desperate-to-get-married Madhav (Om Puri). Genelia D'Souza plays Shikha, Akshaye's college friend who wants to take revenge on him for cutting her knee-length tresses. After the long drawn 'Rose' phone drama is over, the two become best friends.
Janardhan and Madhav often land up in jail because of Madhav's roving eye. Gaurav bails them out because he knows the tough lady cop Bhavani (Archana Puran Singh). So everyone lives happily until Janardhan sees his long lost lady love Anuradha (Shobhana) at a wedding.

Among the cast, Akshaye Khanna has never looked so handsome and so reminiscent of his dashing father. He is the soul of the film and displays his flair for comedy. His rapport with Paresh Rawal is excellent and he looks good with Genelia too. He portrays anger particularly well, whether it is directed towards Om Puri for getting his father in trouble or Genelia for annoying him. Genelia D'souza looks pretty and bubbly and delivers a passable performance but I m sure she has delivered a better performance in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. m Puri is brave enough to make a fool of himself as he checks out girls half his age. Paresh Rawal is brilliant as usual and the transition from a doting father to an over-aged lover boy is effortless. He colours his hair, dons jeans and shaves his beard and forgets to cook for his son in his attempts to woo Shobhana back. Shobhana's character lacks depth. Nasseruddin Shah makes an unexpected cameo as Genelia's clever father.
The funny moments are few and far between - the scene where Gaurav and Shikha youngsters fool their parents into confessing their undying love is cute, though we have seen it before. The scenes with Archana Puran Singh are also quite funny. But otherwise the humour is quite mediocre and trite. The music is bad. The drama towards the end is predictable and over-drawn. The titles should have rolled at the end of two hours. It's a comedy for God's sake!
Hera Pheri is the only genuinely funny movie Priyadarshan has made in recent times and this movie has none of that magical touch.
Give MBPA a miss, unless you are die hard fan of Priyadarshan's brand of comedy, Akshaye Khanna and Paresh Rawal. Watch Finding Nemo, not MBPA on Father's Day.
