Movie Review: Dhoom Dadakka

Doomed Dadakka

indya.com Rating: 0.5/5

Cast: Anupam Kher, Satish Shah, Gulshan Grover, Shad Randhawa, Sammir Dattani, Aarti Chhabria, Shama Sikandar, Zac, Bobby Darling.

Director: Shashi Ranjan

Mungilal (Anupam Kher) plays a don who needs to present his heir to the godfather (Jackie Shroff) if he is to retain control over his land in Alibaug failing which it will be handed over to another don Fursat Lala (Gulshan Grover) and his son (Zac). Since he never married the only hope for an heir for him is his nephew Kamal – a child of his sister Angoori from whom he has been estranged for many years.

Mungilal and his aide Jignesh (Satish Shah) hire a detective Johnny English (Satish Kaushik) to find this Kamal. But things only get complicated as not one but three Kamals turn up saying that each of them is Mungilal’s nephew. One is a struggling actor Rahul (Shad Randhawa), the other is an item girl Shivani (Aarti Chhabria) and the third is a conman Ranbir (Sammir Dattani). Jiya (Shama Sikander) plays Ranbir’s girlfriend and joins the three in the hope to make away with some of Mungilal’s money.

Now the question is who is the real Kamal and Mungilal’s heir? To prove this Mungilala sets out numerous tests for the four to prove themselves. At the same time the deadline for Mungilal to present his heir before the godfather is also running out. Will Mungilal be able to find his Kamal in time is what Dhom Dadakka is all about?

Shashi Ranjan’s Dhoom Dadakka leaves you baffled at the end of it. And we don’t mean that in a good way! You don’t expect earth shattering acting in movies like this and especially not from young guns that formed the main stay of the film…. but for acclaimed actors like Satish Shah and Anupam Kher to agree to do films like this it leaves you nothing but speechless. Jackie Shroff’s impersonation of the godfather will leave Marlon Brando reeling in his grave.

If there was anything that didn’t disappoint in Dhoom Dadakka it was Bobby Darling. We all knew what she was going to do – shake her surgically provided goods and leave us laughing – and she did just that!

When directors think that short clothes, plunging necklines, foreign locales – if you can call Bangkok foreign anymore! – and slightly catchy tunes can make up for a complete lack of storyline then you get served with films like Dhoom Dadakka!
