It amazes me how Rajshri movies look so old and dated (like a mid 90s flick) even today in the times of flicks like
Dostana and
EMI which look so fresh and colourful.
The story is about Chandni and Prem (Eesha and Sonu) who fall in love while preparing for a singing competition. Prem hails from an affluent family with his mom (Smita Jaykar) for company and Chandni has her father Bhushan (Alok Nath) and young siblings Sandhya and Anuj at home. So everything is hunky dory until her father dies on her wedding day. Prem's mom is very keen on the marriage and wants Chandni to leave her siblings in the care of her aunt. Chandni accidentally overhears her aunt' sinister plans and puts her marriage on hold to raise her young siblings. She starts a singing school to run the house while Prem waits for her to relieve herself of her endless family responsibilities so that they can get married.
The story is run of the mill and clichéd replete with the evil sister in law and the clash of the modern and the traditional. You foresee the problems Chandni is going to face. It is also a film where people get married after one meeting. There is a song every three minutes and they are not exactly catchy so you yawn in frustration every time a song plays. Only 'Mujhme Zinda hoon main' stays with you after you have finished watching the movie. On the upside, waiting and being faithful to someone for twelve years is quiet a rare achievement in today's fast paced times.
It is Eesha's film all the way and she does full justice to her first lead role. She looks pretty and expresses herself really well. You never once think of Eesha Koppikhar the item girl. Sonu Sood has shades of the young Amitabh Bachchan and a deep voice too but his expression is the same in every frame.
This movie is strictly not for multiplex audiences at all who will pull their hair out in boredom if they see the film.Even audiences in the single screen theatre weren't exactky pleased. It is also not for fans of
Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and
Vivaah. EVAB is like a feature length soap opera so fans of K serials might like it.
