Sorry Bhai is the story of two brother – Harsh (Sanjay Suri) and Siddharth (Sharman Joshi) – who are as opposite as they come. Harsh is a businessman in Mauritius who wants to earn a lot of money for a secure future for himself. Siddharth on the other hand is an idealistic scientist who hopes to prove his theory to the world.
Harsh calls his parents (Shabana Azmi and Boman Irani) to tell them that he has found his bride Alia (Chitrangda Singh) and he wanted them to come to Mauritius for the wedding. Mommy dear is very upset and refuses to go but finally after a lot of convincing by Siddharth. When the three get to Mauritius, Siddharth, Pops and Alia get along very well. But Mom hates Alia and makes sure she lets her know that.
And while Alia is trying to make sasuma like her, she ends up liking Siddharth – a little too much. She falls in love with his idealistic, saxophone playing ways. And to make things really complicated, Siddharth is equally in love with Alia. Despite trying to control themselves, the two of them finally acknowledge the fact that they need to be together. And so Siddharth breaks the news to his elder bhai Harsh. Obviously this leads to a whole lot of turmoil in the family. Mom gives her ma kasam to her younger son that he will not marry Alia and being the mumma’s boy that he is, he readily agrees.
However, like all Bollywood films this one too needs a happy ending. And it is mommy the great who find the novel and unique way to have that smiling end.
Onir’s film has everything going for it. But only on paper. The screenplay needs to be a lot tighter and the acting a lot more awake. Barring Boman Irani and Sharman Joshi, the rest of the three disappoint. Sanjay Suri does not fit the role and is a misfit for the role. Chitrangda Singh’s dialogue delivery makes you want to cringe! Other than looking good on screen she brings nothing to the screen. Shabana Azmi tries to play the strong over powering mother but falls short.
All in all the film will find it hard to survive at the box office.
