Movie review: Bad Luck Govind

Duck this Bad Luck
Cast: Hrishitaa Bhatt, Govind Namdev, Gaurav Kapur, Zaakir Hussain, Parmeet Sethi, Lalit Mohan Tiwari, Archana Puran Singh
Director: Varun Khanna
Rating: 1/5

Bad Luck Govind is the story of a young man (Govind) who seems to have bad luck as his middle name. Anything he touches, sees or gets involved in goes pear shaped. His luck is such that even cows stop producing milk when he walks by a tabela. Even fresh milk instantly curdles when poured into a cup of tea. In his case the luck seems to be so bad that Govind has become Bad Luck Govind!

Life brings Govind to Mumbai and here too his life begins to go for a toss. The young lad finds himself playing he gets involved with six bhais (Govind Namdev, Vrajesh Hirjee, Parmeet Sethi, Zaakir Husain, Ganesh Yadav and Lalit Mohan Tiwari) and the sexiest nurse (Hrishita Bhatt) Govind could ever imagine!

What happens when all of them begin using his bad luck for their benefit is what the film is all about.

Is it worth a watch this weekend? Definitely not.

What could make noted artists like Archana Puran Singh and Vrajesh Hirjee say yes to this film leaves you confused. And as far as Gaurav Kapur’s performance is concerned, the man has talent but he needs the right film. If he hopes to further his career in Bollywood, signing films like Bad Luck Govind will ensure that he won’t. And I don’t even know what to write about Hrishita Bhatt!

Director Varun Khanna may have had an interesting story in his mind when he started out the film. After all bad luck and nazar are very strong concepts in India. But the concept hasn’t translated well. At all. The director has a bad screenplay and even worse execution. And he should demand a refund from his editor for the patchy job he has done.

Half way through the film you feel like it is a college project made by a film student – a bad one at that! Amateurish writing, bad acting, worse direction make you want to fast forward to end of this year so that you can list Bad Luck Govind amongst the strong contenders for that razzies.

At the end of the film – if you reach it that is! – I felt like Govind’s bad luck has rubbed off on me...
