Spend time with your Nani instead
Detective Naani is 75-years-old and played by the sprightly and expressive Ava Mukherji. She resides at Gulmohar Society. One morning, while returning from her morning walk, she sees a girl peeking nervously from the window of the apartment on the third floor. The girl hides so Naani gets suspicious and conducts investigations on her own, using her common sense and logic, as the CID turns her down. So with the help of her curious grandchildren, divorced daughter and a few teenagers, she sets out to solve the mystery of the hiding girl. She figures she has put herself in danger.
Detective Naani has a refreshing and non-Hindi film premise of a wise and active 75-year-old Naani but at the end, it is just a mediocre film that will appeal only to children. Performance wise, Ava Mukherji shines and holds the film together. She just makes every situation believable and tosses moments of humour. The subplots like the romancing couple, the grandchildren and the songs slow down the proceedings and lengthen the film. However, the film improves in the second half as it progresses towards the climax.
So, another film that doesn’t give you good enough reason to return to the multiplexes. If your Nani is in town and you haven’t caught up with her in a while, it is a better idea to spend an evening bonding with her.
