Synopsis
Vijay (Amitabh) and Ajay (Vinod Khanna) are hard working young men who specialize in Hera Pheri. Their jobs are not like those of normal people; they are con artists. They con bad guys into giving them money by various means which lead to a lot of comedy.
During one of these escapades, Ajay saves Asha (Sulakshana Pandit) and later falls in love with her. Vijay on the other hand is busy trying to protect his mother from the man who murdered his father. But when the killer is finally found he turns out to be Ajay's father. Vijay's misery knows no bounds as Ajay leaves his side to join his father in a life of crime.
Kiran (Saira Bhanu) who works for Ajay's father consoles Vijay in his vunerable state. When Vijay learns that he is surrounded by traitors, he doesn?t know where to turn or whom to trust.

| | Director Prakash Mehra first asked Vinod Khanna to play the role of Ajay. Khanna said he would act in the film only if he was paid Rs 1 lakh more than Amitabh Bachchan was paid. Mehra agreed and Amitabh was paid Rs 1.5 lakh, while Vinod Khanna receives Rs 2.5 lakh.
